The Morenci Pride Band consists of high school students in grades 9th through 12th. During the fall, the band prepares a marching band show which they compete with, as well as perform at halftime home football games.
Each year, before the school year starts every member of the band must complete a full week of band camp spend learning marching technique, show music, and discipline necessary for the group’s success. It is a grueling week where the students put in up to 50 hours of practice!
Once the school year starts, the students rehearse during and after school preparing their show for competition. By participating in marching exhibitions and competitions, the band receives comments and critique from judges which helps them to clean and perfect their show. At EAC band day, the marching band competes to qualify for the state marching competition. Once they qualify, they continue the hard work all the way up until the state marching competition in November.
Marching & Concert Band are a great experience for all involved. They teach discipline and hard work, as well as persistence and dedication. They are both mentally and physically exhausting, but one of the most rewarding experiences a student can participate in.
The MHS Flag-Line is the show portion of the Morenci Pride Band; however it is still its own team. The Flag Line gives students the opportunity to show off their skills as well as learn new ones. It incorporates dance and a lot of movement with and through the band, while twirling a flag as well as other props while marching all at the same time. The sky is the limit!
Any student who is looking for a fast paced, multi-tasking highly rewarding team should consider joining the Flag Line.
Flag line is judged with the band in competitions as well as on its own and does attend its own competitions as an auxiliary team.
